cant sleep

i cant sleep and am running out of ways to procrastinate from doing any kind of work.

the bbq went pretty well, asside from a few problems like the potatoes not being completely done thanks to samir saying "we should mix up the vegitables on the kabobs or they wont be kabobs. (they should be seperated because different vegitables take longer than others)

first half of the week i got to spend time with j and tman, but the rest of the week was wedding stuff day after day. had to wake up early three days in a row. indian weddings are a big hassle and there was no official reception or anything like there was with purvi's wedding so it was a sober wedding(other side of family doesnt drink like ours). that means lots of sitting around and being bored.

this not sleeping thing is annoying me, i know i'm going to be tired as hell when i go to class even though i'm full of energy now. at least one good thing came out of it. i went for a walk, yeah around 7am which is normal to some people but not my schedule. i did watch the sunrise over the city at least, which was surprisingly cool.

Been busy since thursday night what a crazy weekend.

Thursday night i was over hanging out in tristians room. Mital and jonas came over and we headed over to tris's room for a party it was alot of fun and good drinks. mital and jonas got smashed so the 3 of us left to take care of the usual drinking aftereffects and hung out with some other people. by the time i went to sleep it was 5.

Friday 1 day before the njit game expo 1.5 (http://it.njit.edu/kehoed/expo/index.html) both my roomate and i are in the homebrew game design competition. i've been pouring alot of my time into this 2d shooter i've been making for class. I love working on it, its much more fun than actually playing video games once you get started. but at the time all i had was 2 levels 1 boss and i didnt like how the bugs(enemies) in my seccond level behaved. so i stayed up all nigt adding a menu screen, game over screen, lives, score, and polishing up the seccond level enemy behavior and adding a level 2 boss AI. now i used 3 sprites from metroid and created the rest of the graphics on my own. which took alot of time. by the time i was finished it was 7am i had been up since 10am. the expo starts at 12 and we had to be there at 11. so i got about 5 hours of sleep then off to the expo we go.

The expo was surprising really nicely set up there was a theatre where people could watch the ongoing tournaments on a big screen in the theatre and the tournaments held out in the hall. tables were set up for people entering the competitions which was BYOM bring your own Machine. so matt and i set up our computers and showed the games off to everyone. most people were intersted in the tournaments which was no surprise but a few people came and played through the games. alot of the people liked the boss fights which is what my game focuses on. so that was great. whenever i went away from the system which i was reluctant to do cuz its my baby in a crowd of strangers. i would glance over to see the people playing the homebrew games 8 total entries. alot of them were good. so it was anyones guess who would win. its awsome when you see crowds of people at your game and its actually holding their attention they did for both my roomates and my game. when the judging came up i got pretty nervous i really wanted to win and then again i didnt care but hey a free psp would be awsome. they gave away the prizes to the other two catagories which were nintendo DS's. then finally came to the homebrew catagory. 2nd place matthew edzanga w00 that was my roomate so i was happy one of us placed high up. 1st place Amish Patel. they said the 1st and 2nd place was an extremely close call by like half a point. i would have never expected to win but it was great. everyone was thinking this guy that made a starwars asteroids style game would win, so did we. well if you want to play my game its here. http://web.njit.edu/~aap23/Bloodcraftv1.0.rar just unzip the folder and play, let me know what you think and if you find any bugs. i'll probably finish the game over the summer with a full 8 levels and a decent menu system. there still is alot of work that needs to be done on it but its fully playable. with 2 levels.

After the expo we all went out for kash's birthday to a hooka bar in NYC and got some konti rolls and falaful, overall it was a great time but we got back around 7am again by this time i am dead tired. this owuldnt be so much of a problem but on sunday i had to go to an all day field trip with my astronomy professor and some other friends. so i had to wake up at 9am we spent the entire time walking around new york and going to the meuseum where he explained a whole bunch of stuff. our professor is very interesting if you ever meet him he's awsome. we went to mars2160 or something which was this resteraunt in nyc that you have to travel 160 years into the future and onto the planet mars through a mini ride to get in. it was pretty interesting all the staff was in roleplay ect. my prof is a big geek. he was insanely giddy to be there lol. the trip might have been good if i didnt want to die on the spot from having 11 hours of sleep total since thursday. my body isnt used to this kind of activity such a busy weekend. good thing i only have 3 finals coming up.

I'm in a 4 million dollar condo for spring break O.O! its the most relaxing place i've been in the past 4 years. i'll have pictures up at some point in time. we headed up to a club earlier but dancing isnt my thing and jojo felt guilty dancing with girls there because he's got a gf so we ditched the others for a few hours and hit a bar. bars are so much better. dont its just a calmer nicer atmosphere. time to head out, i'm not much of an outgoing person. i wouldnt mind just chilling at the condo, we have a private beach big screen hd tv, pool ect. the amazing part was we have access to 3 of these condo's but 1 is enough to accomodate all of us.

its like 3 am and just a bit ago i was watching random things on tv. tired of channel surfing i left it on sci-fi channel because some old 80's movie was on and it had freaky looking people in black and white. instead of paying attention to the tv i went back to my work on the computer. oddly enough the phrase "time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and i'm all out of gum" pops up. suddenly the movie is now the center of attention. if you havent figured out what that means. its a famous line used in dukenukem. i checked the date of the movie which was 1988 then looked at the date of the original duke nukem game 1991 and now we know where dukenukem came from. "they live" is the movie its about this blond headed guy fighting off these aliens that live as yuppys. not too far from the games storyline at all. is this common knowledge?

Today was a fairly busy day. Started off waking up early and going to my cousins engagement party. it was ok, well mostly boring sitting around and watching some cerimonial stuff. Ate some decent indian food and then headed back home. However i did get 25 dollars out of it supposedly they grooms family gives the brides brothers and 1st cousins(almost brothers) something? Its not that big of a deal, its not the actual wedding just kinda a small meet the family thing.

After getting back to school Dan and Matt decided to go to the gym so i went with them and we actually stayed there for a good while. usually we get tired then grab some food after 30-45 minutes. After that we hung out at the starbucks(on campus, not really starbucks just kinda has the brand name on it.) and goofed around till about 8. The funny part was Ray was there and we were cracking some gay jokes, but he's cool he just fired back with some other jokes. Surprisingly nobody acts homophobic around ray but in every other situation we all are.

i'm so sick of hearing about the xbox 360. they are marketing this thing to hell. everywhere you go, channel you serf, even relatives you speak to. all you hear about is the xbox 360. well i guess the marketing must be working if my relatives are talking about it. its a shame how easily excited some people are getting, the system isnt doing anything spectacular and wont till games actually take advantage of its architecture. But of course you all know how amazingly cool and awsome it is by now.

Ah the year is progressing. today i woke up and was almost late for an exam. i just threw my jeans on top of my pajamas. it was so comfortable i decided to leave it that way. other than that nothing exciting happening.
i registered for my classes next semester. they look really fun.
it485 game design architecture
cis485 game programming
cis 114 more programming (still catching up)
calc 2

those classes count for multimedia so thats my focus. after i take those two classes i take game studio. (yes i'm not graduating after next semester) cuz i'm a bum.

i should probably take one more class. i was going to take a video eddting course but it conflicts with the others.

i beat shadow of the colossus today, the visuals of the game are amazing when fighting the bosses, some friends would sit around and watch me play, and actually wanted me to wait when they didnt have time lol. the game was amazing, the ending was amazing especially since i know all the details of ICO so the connections between the two games are crystal clear to me. Ueda is definatly one of the best new game designers. video games may have a hope for the future. did i mention the ending was AMAZING. both ico and shadow of the colossus for no reason at all would turn my permanent frown to a giant grin while i played through them.

i did average on both my exams. sadly its high above the curves. so i'm most likely going to get B-A's on both my IT exam and CS exam. which is great since for my cs exam i was so hung over i couldnt think straight and didnt finish a 12point problem which made me get a 70% the class average was somewhere around 55. after i looked at the exam a seccond time. i've come to realize everyone in my class must be retarded. But then again there are alot of non comp suave people in that class. or maybe i wasnt the only one partying it up the night before.

so everyone got quake 4, its fun its just like quake3 though. just look better. unfortunatly my network has these wonderful spikes that render the game unplayable across the internet. so no pubbing for us. on the other hand we have alot of people on campus so we just play on a dedicated server over the network. i dont know how dan does it but he has to be hacking the average game goes something like this.

Zykosis(dan) 20
0432(me) 5
eagleeyez(my roomate) -1

when there are other people on the server its not much different from our scores.

today i'm supposed to do 2 things. 1. go to a bar with 10 girls from cetan hall. (awsome right?) 2. go home for my cousins bday dinner. i hate how this happends. it would be very convenient if i go home for dinner today since i have to go to the bday/party on friday. meh now that jojo is going out with mital we'll be going out with those girls alot anyway ;;)

friday night i went to new york. not for anything important or anything, clubbing? yeah right. no it was all a last minute decision to get "chicken and rice" something i hear is orgasmically good. so a few of my indian friends and i go to nyc. walk all kinds of long distances late at night. to what i thought would be some new place no.. chicken and rice comes from a street vendor. oddly enough it was amazingly awsome. but to travel all that distance mostly by foot for some chicken and rice? it was worth it. the crappy part was i was still a bit sick from being hung over.

today me my roomate and dan went to nyc for this digital life convention type deally. they had a quake 4 tourny there. unfortunatly we didnt make it in time to sign in for the tourny. which really sucked cuz dan had a 90% chance of winning. he's sick. but we did get to play between the tourny matches so it wasnt all bad. and jessica alba was there.. she's hawt. we stopped playing quake to fight the crowd for a picture, sad right? oh well it was still fun.

i've been kinda sick recently. today spent the whole day with an almost empty stomach. i wasnt hungry at all until like 12am when i started getting a bad headache. going a whole day without food and not being hungry? doesnt seem very healthy.

started going to the gym 3 days a week with some friends. i AM getting a bit stronger. everytime we go its easier and easier to lift ect. now i need to start running more.

i've been studying alot. not for any of my classes but flash. its fun to mess around with and i keep wanting the ability to do more with it. so i go through and make little projects to learn different things. so far so good except now i'm skipping my it homework to work on it.

the other day i hung out with a few friends and we went over to seton hall (a private college) that one of Deeps high school friends went to. i went mainly because i had nothing better to do. it was the most annoying thing i've ever done all year. something about those girls iratated me. they were cute but the urge to shoot them in the face kinda ran the whole night. yesturday they came here i decided to not hang out with them and save myself the trouble. instead i hung out with joe and stef which happen to be much more comfortable company. i even managed to steal stefs sketch pad she's good at drawing but too shy to let people look at her drawings. today we went to see a movie, durring the show i heard 7 cellphones ring (after the 4th one i kept count) and there was always ALWAYS whispering going on. those adds that tell you to turn your cellphone off seem to have been made for this very theatre. unfortunately the people here are too retarded to put their phones on vibrate or turn them off.

a sum up of the weekend.
friday - played raquet ball
as much as i like the game, everyone except Deep sucks at the game horribly. we can never get good volly's going.

saturday - went home(jersey house), watched tv, worked out a little i'm trying to get in better shape, besides a gym with a plasma tv
right there. why not?

sunday - came back to school, had sushi with my sister, which was nice i havent done that in awhile since she lives farther away.
we went to sushia but it wasnt as good as it usually is. after that i spent the whole day doing nothing productive. well except i finally overclocked my cpu to 3 ghz not really noticing much difference o.0 but the system is running very stable and still very cool.

how exciting.
